‘Sanchez could regret choosing Arsenal over Liverpool,’ claims Lewis

first_imgAlexis Sanchez “might have made a mistake” in choosing to move to Arsenal instead of Liverpool, according to Daily Mirror journalist Darren Lewis.Chile’s World Cup star completed a move to the Gunners from Barcelona for a reported £33million on Thursday but he was also a target for the Reds.Brendan Rodgers had hoped to lure the 25-year-old to Anfield as part of the deal for Luis Suarez – who has now agreed a £75m switch to the Nou Camp – however Sanchez turned down the move. And Lewis told Transfer Tavern: “It’s quite strange that Sanchez turned them down. I really thought he would relish playing in front of the Kop, playing for such a passionate and historic club.“Liverpool are an institution in this country, they’re not just a football club. I’m really surprised Sanchez decided not to go there.“That’s not being disrespectful about Arsenal, they’re a wonderful club but [there was the] opportunity to go and play for Liverpool.“The one thing I think possibily happened was Sanchez looked at it and thought, ‘Well if Suarez doesn’t fancy playing there why should I?’“Maybe it was as basic as that but I think he might have made a mistake.”last_img
