first_imgMORE than 6% of staff at Letterkenny General Hospital were off sick in July, latest figures show.The rate of absence is above the average.It was one of up to 21 HSE institutions, including five of its local health offices and 15 hospitals, all returned an absence rate in excess of 6 per cent for the month of July, the latest available national absenteeism data shows in the Irish Medical Times. However, the data covering hospitals, agencies and functions reveal that absenteeism for July was 4.75 per cent, down from 4.87 per cent in June, representing the second-lowest rate recorded this year, the HSE told the paper.The hospitals that returned an absence rate in excess of 6 per cent were: Limerick Maternity Hospital; Cork Dental Hospital; Ennis General Hospital; Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise; Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar; St John’s Hospital, Limerick; Cavan General; Bantry; Nenagh; Louth County Hospital, Dundalk; St Vincent’s, Fairview; Sligo Regional; Limerick Regional; St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny; and Letterkenny General.Staff in HSE local health offices in Limerick, Wicklow, Mayo, Tipperary South and Dublin West, and the Children’s Sunshine Home, were also excessively absent from work, figures reveal.The 4.75 per cent absenteeism rate for July leaves the year-to-date absenteeism rate of the Executive at 4.83 per cent, which for the corresponding month in 2010 was 4.64 per cent, said the IMT.
